Deadline day is always hard to keep up with and anything can happen. Even then, not many would have seen Celtic's move for Jeffrey Schlupp coming. The Hoops were believed to be on the lookout for a left-back, a winger and a striker. And they somehow managed to find a player capable of playing all three roles.
Schlupp has not featured much for Crystal Palace in recent times. So, a move away from the club makes perfect sense for him.
On the other hand, his versatility means that Celtic could solve a variety of problems at once. Even if it is only for the short term.
As reported by Anthony Joseph, Schlupp is keen to join Celtic and the two clubs negotiating about how much of his wages the Scottish champions will cover. The Crystal Palace player is out of contract in the summer. If the teams can agree a deal then a medical in London can begin.
Jeffrey Schlupp makes Celtic transfer decision after late offer
The move for Schlupp might feel random, especially with absolutely no links to him all window. One cannot overlook the fact though that Celtic were believed to be interested in him in the summer as well.
Schlupp might be someone capable of fixing a lot of problems. But one can only hope that that does not mean that Celtic only sign him before the deadline rather than going out and making multiple additions to fill the squad's needs across the pitch.
This was supposed to be a simple transfer window for Celtic. They were comfortably leading the league title race and had the chance to make it to the Champions League knockout phase, which they have achieved. Yet, here on deadline day, it feels like there is a lot of panic amongst the supporters. That should not have been the case.
