The Jamie Vardy to Celtic transfer links have intensified, almost out of nowhere, as a move now seems very possible.

Jamie Vardy is a Premier League legend. But is he the answer to Celtic's problems at 38 years of age? Well, we might end up finding the answer to that question in the near future. The Hoops have been pretty open to the idea of signing veteran players in recent times. Joe Hart, Kasper Schmeichel, Jeffrey Schlupp and Aaron Mooy are great examples of that strategy. Could the Leicester City icon be next on that list?

Do not rule out the probability. In fact, when you notice how much noise this story has picked up pace over the last few days, it would not be a surprise if something is going on in the background already.

Celtic were believed to have sounded out Jack Grealish earlier in the summer. It looks like they might be looking to make a big-name addition. And even at 38 years of age, Vardy does fit that criteria.

Grealish might not have been open to the idea of a move to Scotland, but it looks like Vardy is keen on it. As reported by The Scottish Sun, a source said:

"He’d love to move to Celtic and really has his heart set on that move.

“He loved playing under Brendan and thinks he could be a massive benefit to the team up there. In fact, ever since it became clear Celtic were up for the deal Jamie’s been desperate to make it happen.

“But other clubs are keen to so time will tell. But one thing is for sure he won’t be without a team at the end of August."

It remains to be seen how things will play out in the Vardy saga. But one has to point out that it could actually work.

Vardy scored 9 goals in the Premier League last season while playing for a Leicester City side that got relegated. Are there any current strikers at Celtic who would have managed to achieve the same under similar circumstances? Probably not.

People might be reading a bit too much into Vardy's age. If he is still fit enough then signing him on a one-year deal might not be a bad idea at all. We all know he is a phenomenal goalscorer and that is what Celtic are lacking at the moment.
