James Forrest has revealed that he has already spoken to Steve Clarke over a potential call-up for the summer World Cup. Scotland has qualified for the competition for the first time since 1998, and it's going to be an exciting time, with at least two Celtic players likely to be involved.
Kieran Tierney and Anthony Ralston will probably be involved in the squad, having featured in the qualifying rounds, and Forrest is hoping he can join that list. He is set to turn 35-years-old is July, and has been a star for the Hoops recently. He even earned himself an additional one-year deal that could see him end his career at Parkhead.
Now, he has touched on his World Cup dreams. Speaking to The Daily Record, he said: "It’s obviously unbelievable what Steve Clarke and the players have done. It’s great for the country reaching a World Cup.
"I’ve never closed the door on playing for Scotland. I think being at Celtic, the main thing is playing here for the rest of the season.
"If you are playing well for Celtic then you get recognised by Scotland, because you are going for leagues, playing in cup finals and Europe. I’ve seen in the past, as a Celtic player, it does sometimes lead to Scotland as well.
"To be honest, the main focus is on doing well for Celtic, giving everything from now until the end of the season.
"I spoke to the manager a couple of times, maybe more at the start of last season and after we qualified. The manager has done great. He’s picked the teams that have done brilliantly to get to another competition. Everyone will back whatever decisions he makes."
Is the Scotland story over for Forrest?
It seems that there could be another twist in Forrest's Scotland career. It was only a few years ago that he had to refund his summer holiday after he was included in the squad for the 2024 Euros, and his last appearance came against Gibraltar that same year.
Forrest has said that no matter what happens, he'll be supporting the team. He was 'delighted' when they qualified for the World Cup 'with the pressure' that was put on them, and who knows what could happen in America.
There is every chance to believe that Scotland could pull something off, so we'll see if we get to be the dark horses for once!
