It would be safe to say that Celtic were even worse than many had expected in the game against AS Roma. There were no signs of improvement from their display against Hearts. In fact, one could argue that they got worse as Wilfried Nancy looks to implement his ideas on a team where he simply does not have the personnel yet.
That has to be down to the manager for sure. We have seen Martin O'Neill produce both results and decent performances with this same team. But Nancy is struggling to do the same. Perhaps he is trying to make too many changes, too quickly.
His struggles are being recognised abroad as well. As reported by Sport Witness, Gazzetta dello Sport singled out Nancy and handed him a rating of 4/10 only, which was worse than any player on the pitch.
In terms of the players, it was Sebastian Tounekti who got the worst rating. A 4.5/10. Of course, it is worth mentioning that Nancy is playing him out of position at the moment.
Italian media slam Celtic man for performance vs AS Roma
Tounekti made a bright start to life at Celtic upon his arrival on deadline day but his form has faded away since then. Of course, he has not been helped by the constant changes in the hot seat. In a little over three months at the club, he is already working with his third manager.
That can never be easy. And it remains to be seen if Nancy is willing to change his ways and adjust, after seeing how badly his team have struggled in this system.
The manager needs to realise that at top clubs like Celtic, results are always going to be the most important thing, even if the fans appreciate a good brand of football. That needs to be his primary concern.
