Celtic have had a tough time in the winter transfer window already. They have been able to sign only one new name, with Julian Araujo arriving on a loan deal until the end of the campaign. But they have failed to get multiple ones over the line. Moves of Kyogo and Niko Sigur did not end up materialising. Now, it looks like Jocelin Ta Bi won't be arriving either, even though a fee as well as the contract had been agreed upon.
This is due to a pre-existing injury. It is now believed that Ta Bi will require surgery, which is why Celtic are believed to have pulled the plug on the move.
There have been suggestions that the club want to sign multiple wingers this winter. And understandably so. Both Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Sebastaian Tounekti, their two summer arrivals, have failed to meet expectations. Jota has yet to return from the long-term injury he picked up last season. To be fair, Yang Hyun-jun has been one of the club's standout performers in recent weeks.
Overall, more quality and depth are needed on the flanks. And it looks like a move for a Uruguayan international could be on the cards for Celtic.
International winger keen on joining Celtic, talks underway
As reported by The Herald, Ignacio Laquintana is keen on a move to Celtic. Talks are taking place over a loan move with a possible option to buy in the summer.
Laquintana is currently on the books of Brazilian club RB Bragantina and has never played in European football. So, there will be some question marks over how he would transition to life at Celtic. That being said, he certainly has the pedigree to succeed, having played for clubs like Santos and Penarol as well, and has represented the Uruguayan national team on two occasions, scoring once.
Of course, considering how things have gone for Celtic this month, nothing can be taken for granted before a move officially happens. But this is certainly a positive update.
