Christian Eriksen is one of the most high-profile names to be linked with a move to Celtic Park in recent times. The Denmark international is currently at Manchester United but his contract with the club runs out next summer with an extension not expected to come. Also, they are undergoing another transitional period after parting ways with Erik ten Hag and appointing Ruben Amorim. Could that lead to the veteran's exit in January?
While it feels like Eriksen has been around for ages, he is still just 32. So, he should have at least a few more years of football left in the tank.
Of course, there would be plenty of hurdles for Celtic to sign someone like Eriksen. And it looks like one has been named already in that regard.
As reported by Football Insider, Celtic have met a financial issue in their pursuit of signing Eriksen from Manchester United. The Scottish champions are not going to get “anywhere near” the wages that he’s currently earning at Old Trafford, which could stop a deal from happening in January.
Insider drops Christian Eriksen to Celtic update
If Eriksen wants to play for Celtic, he will certainly have to make a few sacrifices. Do not rule out a move though because in recent years, the Hoops have been successful in bringing in high-profile names like Joe Hart and Kasper Schmeichel.
Someone like Eriksen would most probably end up being the club's highest earner if he did join Celtic. But the question is, do they even need him right now?
Celtic have plenty of options in midfield right now and a good variety as well, when it comes to the mix of youth and experience. So, if Eriksen was brought in, would it end up hurting the balance that has already been built up?
