Injured Celtic loan defender Julian Araujo picked up an injury after the penalty win over Rangers at Ibrox, and he has now flown to Mexico for specialist treatment. He has returned to his home country in hopes of potentially making the World Cup squad if he can recover in time.
The right-back recently went back to Bournemouth to continue his treatment for a thigh injury, and it was confirmed that he would not play for the Hoops again this season. That didn't bode well for his international hopes, with him missing out on a recent call-up as a result, but he is holding out for a spot on the plane.
He will be undergoing treatment at the Mexican FA High Performance Centre, reportedly undergoing intensive treatment and rehabilitation this week.
Celtic fans hoping that he will be signed
Despite his injury coming at a poor time, Celtic fans have seen enough, and they are pushing the club to sign him on a permanent basis. We all knew it was only a loan, and the old saying, 'never fall in love with a loan player', quickly went out of the window.
He is such a likeable player. His crucial goal at Rugby Park and the following celebrations won everyone's hearts, and the performances that he put in against Rangers further cemented him as a fan favourite.
He clearly feels a lot of love for Celtic as well, and supporters hope that will push him to return to Glasgow.
After leaving the club, he said: "I'm truly grateful to Celtic Football Club for welcoming me from day one and making Glasgow feel like home.
"Wearing this badge and experiencing the passion, history, and energy of this club is something I'll carry with me forever."
He was careful not to reveal any transfer stance, but if the Hoops do go for him, they will likely face competition for his signature. His brother made it clear that he is keen on Araujo rejoining the Celts, so that could go in our favour.
Currently, there are no other transfer links regarding the right-back position. In that spot, we have Anthony Ralston, Colby Donovan and Alistair Johnston, so we aren't starved for choice. Adding Araujo to that list wouldn't be underappreciated by the fans, so fingers crossed that it gets over the line.
We won't have to wait long to see as the season is quickly drawing to a close. Only a handful of games remain, and Celtic are still pushing for the title. Let's hope that we can get over the line.
