Celtic had started this winter transfer window with some intent, bringing in Julian Araujo on loan from Bournemouth for the rest of the season on January 2. But after that, things slowed down significantly and there have been no new additions over the next three weeks that have followed. One has to imagine that the sacking of Wilfried Nancy and the exit of Paul Tisdale must have had some sort of effect on their plans for the month.
That being said, they do need to back Martin O'Neill, who has shown tremendous loyalty to the club by answering the phone in an hour of need once again, even at 73 years of age. Hopefully, the Hoops will provide him with the players that he needs to turn this around and guide them to silverware come May.
Over the last few days, there have been some positive movements in this regard. A deal for Tomas Cvancara has been agreed with both the club and the player. It is only a matter of time before it is officially announced. And there is another update regarding them.
As reported by Sky Sports, Celtic will have the option to sign Cvancara in the summer for £7 million. The Hoops will cover his wages until the end of the season at a cost of £870,000.
'In the summer for £7m' - Sky Sports confirm Celtic transfer news
It is positive that Celtic have an option to buy in place already. That shows that they have learned from the Adam Idah mistake.
Idah had a positive loan spell at Celtic from Norwich City. The following summer, they had to shell out in the region of £9 million to sign him permanently, when he would have been available for a fraction of that the previous winter.
Now, we know how much it will take to sign Cvancara already. And he will have to impress if he is convince Celtic to shell that out next summer.
