The dust has now settled on the tie between Celtic and Bayern Munich. The Hoops did great, better than anybody could have expected, but fell narrowly short, as a 94th-minute goal from Alphonso Davies in the second leg at the Allianz Arena knocked them out of the Champions League. The fans have a lot to be proud about but it is also the time to focus on the future instead of dwelling on what is already done.

Celtic still have two trophies to play for this season. They have a commanding lead in the Premiership title race with 12 games to go. On the other hand, they are the favourites in the Scottish Cup as well, but as we all know, anything can happen in knockout competitions.

Celtic's run in the Champions League should help them further widen the gap between themselves and the other teams in Scotland. It certainly came with its financial rewards.

As reported by CeltsAreHere, Celtic will receive €7.9 million (£6.7 million) from UEFA this Friday as part of their earnings from the Champions League knockout phase. The Hoops will also be due another €1 million (£850,000) on March 21 for reaching the knockout round.

These are figures that other Scottish teams, including the Rangers, can only dream about. Of course, football is not about money when it comes to the fans.

It is about showing further improvement in Europe over the coming years. That means that the Celtic board will be expected to reinvest this money in the upcoming transfer windows.

Brendan Rodgers has proven that he deserves their backing and if he gets that next summer, there is a possibility that Celtic could go one step further in the Champions League. That has to be the goal after the showing against Bayern Munich.
