Nottingham Forest made a bold move by appointing Ange Postecoglou as their manager after sacking Nuno Espirito Santo. The former Celtic boss had won Tottenham Hotspur the Europa League title but he had been sacked by Spurs due to finishing in 17th position in the Premier League. And his start with the two-time European champions has not been much to write home about either.
Postecoglou is yet to taste victory with Nottingham Forest after his first five games. One can only hope that things improve for the Australian moving forward.
Nottingham Forest had a tough time at the start of the campaign under Santo, but things have gotten worse since his sacking. Questions are now being asked of Postecoglou's ability to deliver at the Premier League level.
Chris Wood is someone who will know what it takes to succeed at the top level in football while coming from Oceania. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the New Zealand striker said:
"To be fair, we didn’t cross over when he was in Australia, I heard of him mostly when he was going from Japan to Celtic and doing great things up there.
“He’s been a big manager in the last 10 years at least coming through. He was always doing extremely well and obviously doing extremely well at Tottenham."
'Great things' - Nottingham Forest's Chris Wood makes Celtic claim
If Postecoglou fails with Nottingham Forest as well, it might be difficult for Postecoglou to attract Premier League offers in the future. But it might end up opening the door to a Celtic return in the summer, with Brendan Rodgers' current deal running out at the end of this campaign.
To be very honest, after how things turned out in the recent summer transfer window, and the lack of ambition and backing from the club, it is hard to imagine that Rodgers will end up extending his contract with Celtic. Then again, things can quickly change, especially if the Northern Irishman ends up having another successful season.
At the same time though, despite his recent struggles down in England, most Celtic fans would welcome back Postecoglou with open arms. He was phenomenal during his time at Parkhead, delivering five trophies in just two seasons, under difficult circumstances, for which he often does not get enough credit. His connection with the supporters was something special as well. Let's see what the future holds.
