It is no secret that Celtic have tried to sign Go Ahead Eagles' Jakob Breum, this summer. The Danish youth international is coming off a pretty good season, having managed 10 goals and 5 assists in 26 Eredivisie appearances. Unsurprisingly, that kind of form has caught the eye of teams, including that of the Hoops.

Breum mostly played as a winger in the past but was featured more regularly as a number 10 last season. That clearly had a positive impact. It will be interesting to see where Celtic would play him if they were successful in signing him this summer. It is worth mentioning that they are already using Benjamin Nygren as part of the midfield three rather than on the flank.

Of course, signing Breum would be another hurdle. It is believed that the club have already failed with three offers for the Go Ahead Eagles player.

Club officials do not generally discuss transfer dealings with the media. But as reported by The Celtic Way, Go Ahead Eagles technical director Jan Willem van Dop said:

"I spoke to Jan once this summer and he inquired about Joris Kramer. And then I very clearly indicated that we don’t want to lose Joris.

“And that’s what I like too. You can then fight at that moment. But Jan indicated in response to my explanation right away, ‘Well, Willem we respect and are and done with that.’

“And then he had a second question and that was Jakob Breum. I say, ‘Well, obviously that’s something to talk about if the price is right.’

“And we didn’t get out of that. What to me was the only positive of that was, that they offered at least already above the official offer that was ever made by Celtic.

“Because that was one and a half million. So his thinking was higher."

It is believed that Celtic had made an initial offer in the region of €1.5 million to sign Breum from Go Ahead Eagles this summer. It is not hard to understand why the Dutch club were not interested and turned it away. Just look at the player's output. It is hard to imagine that that would have been accepted under any circumstance.

Now, it looks like FC Twente are already willing to go further when it comes to signing Breum. That is bad news for Celtic.

It has also been claimed though that since that initial bid, Celtic have made two more offers as well in an attempt to sign Breum. Both have been turned down but talks are still ongoing between the two parties. So, let's see if it leads anywhere from here.
