Celtic were heavy favourites going into the game against Partick Thistle but they still needed to get the job done. Two goals, either side of half-time, sealed a 4-0 win for the Hoops. Yang Hyun-jun, Liam Scales, Sebastian Tounekti and Luke McCowan were on the scoresheet for the Scottish champions as they avoided a League Cup upset and booked their place in the semi-finals.

Amid all this, a heavily criticised seems to have impressed a large section of the support as well. Many now seem to believe that he is better than Adam Idah, who left for Swansea City on deadline day of the summer window.

The player in question is none other than Kelechi Iheanacho. It is pretty clear that he is nowhere near full fitness yet. And the striker did not score, and goals are ultimately what forwards are measured by.

That being said, he did do a good job of linking up play with the wingers and midfielders. That can prove to be vital for Celtic over the course of the season, even if Iheanacho does not score a ton of goals himself.

One Celtic fan wrote: "Iheanacho still needs to get sharpness, but the difference in the ability to take the ball in, back to goal, on the halfway, then lay it off, from what Idah offered is galaxies apart."

Another fan added: "Not fully fit yet but Iheanacho looks decent. Nice to have a centre-forward who links play again. Love Maeda but far better off the left for me."

One can only hope that this is only the beginning for him and he builds from here. He is clearly a very good player and someone who needs to be trusted.

Iheanacho played his best football under the management of Brendan Rodgers during their time together at Leicester City. And there are signs that the manager might be able to get the best out of him once again, which would be brilliant for the Hoops.
