Celtic are in the midst of an intriguing summer, but so far it has been a rather uninspiring one. Martin O'Neil demanded significant investment before taking on the job full-time, but while there is plenty of time to catch up, there has been no money spent yet.
The Bhoys are expected to lose some players this summer, with Arne Engels and Daizen Maeda being linked with exits, along with Reo Hatate and potentially Benjamin Nygren. Celtic will want to keep those departures to a minimum, but some will be offered big deals elsewhere, and it's likely the Hoops will cash in on at least a couple to help fund their summer business.
We could see exits elsewhere, too, with decisions to be made on the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who both arrived on short-term deals during last season.
Incomings will be the focus for now, with Celtic needing to improve significantly on their poor recruitment last summer, which set them up for a slow start to the season. O'Neill, who came in and saved Celtic from the poor start, will be desperate to avoid such a situation playing out again, but there is little evidence of that happening.
Celtic have been slow to get off the mark again this summer, and there have been issues to deal with off the pitch, between the whole Robbie Keane saga and the failure to appoint O'Neill's background staff, at least up until the time of writing.
It already feels like Celtic have had a difficult summer, but we are still early in the day, and the right kind of recruitment could see that perception changed over the coming weeks.
