Kieran Tierney seems to be very close to leaving Arsenal, whether that be this January or in the summer, after the Premier League club passed on the chance to extend his contract by another twelve months. That means that the Scottish international will be a free agent at the end of the ongoing campaign.

Despite Tierney's constant fitness issues, there is no doubt that he is quality footballer. In fact, not too long ago, he was viewed as a future Arsenal captain.

So, if or when he does leave Arsenal, there is expected to be a decent bit of interest in his signature. But Celtic are looking like his most likely destination.

That is not because Celtic would be the most lucrative option for Tierney. It might be where he is happiest though, having grown up supporting the Hoops and come through the academy ranks at the club before establishing himself as a hero at the senior level.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Darrell Currie was speaking about the potential for Tierney to return to Celtic on The Scottish Football Social Club. The presenter and pundit said:

"He would be [up for Celtic return]. I know Kieran well and I’ve spoken to him quite a bit down the years and the number of times he mentions wanting to go back at some point in his career.

“It just feels like the stars are aligning a bit here."

That love for Celtic could lead Tierney to pick a return to Parkhead over more lucrative options in England and around Europe. Of course, time shall tell how this entire situation will play out.

Bringing back Tierney would have its fair share of risks for Celtic as well. At the end of the day, one cannot overlook his history of injuries. He has spent a significant amount of time out on the sidelines going back to his time at Parkhead.

Can Celtic rely on someone with Tierney's injury history to be their number one option at left-back? That is something that the club will need to assess before making any move.
