Celtic have a long history of identifying the right talents and then developing them into superstars at Parkhead, before they eventually leave the club for significantly higher transfer fees. Just in the recent summer window, Matt O'Riley joined Brighton & Hove Albion in a Scottish-record move. A few years back, he was playing in the English third division.
One player Celtic signed during Brendan Rodgers' first stint at Parkhead was Odsonne Edouard. He wasthe club's record signing back then but he would go on to justify that decision by enjoying several successful seasons at Parkhead.
Edouard would eventually leave Celtic to join Crystal Palace in the summer of 2021. Big things were expected from the Frenchman in the Premier League but unfortunately, things have not gone in that direction.
Edouard struggled to deliver the goods for Crystal Palace for the past three seasons. This summer, he joined Leicester City on a season-long loan. But now, it looks like he is facing a fresh problem.
Former Celtic superstar's loan deal could be terminated
As reported by Football Insider, Leicester City are considering terminating Edouard’s loan deal in January. The French forward has not impressed for the Foxes and they are now weighing up cancelling the agreement.
Terminating Edouard's deal would allow Leicester City to make another Premier League loan signing in January. And that could prove vital for the club, as they look to avoid relegation.
There is no question about Edouard's talent. We saw it on display for several years at Celtic Park. But unfortunately, it looks like things just are not working for him in the Premier League. Perhaps a move away from the English top flight is someone worth considering. His style might be more suited to a different type of football. Let's see what the future holds.
