Former Celtic striker in running to be next Southampton manager
With the season now well underway, some clubs around Europe might already be looking at possible managerial changes. One of them could be Southampton. They have picked up just one point from their first eight games since returning to the Premier League. Naturally, Russell Martin's future with the club is up in the air and a former Celtic striker could be a potential replacement, if he were indeed shown the exit door at some point.
The problem for Martin is, the schedule is not going to get any easier for Southampton. From now till December 15, they have games against Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion.
So, it would not come as a major surprise if Southampton do find themselves searching for a new manager soon. And bookmakers have Robbie Keane as one of those in the running to be the Premier League club's next boss.
Of course, any such appointment would be unexpected. Keane does not have much experience as a manager nor was he a player for Southampton, for that connection to be there.

To be fair to Keane, he has been fantastic in his limited time as manager. His coaching career began unexpectedly in India.
He was made player-manager of ATK towards the end of the season. Keane guided them to two wins from three matches in that role.
Then, he got the chance to manage Maccabi Tel Aviv last season. Keane's side won 41 out of the 56 matches that he managed there, winning a couple of trophies as well.
So, Keane does look like a talented manager. Appointing him would be a risk for any top-level European club, but so was Xabi Alonso for Bayer Leverkusen and look how that worked out.
