It is not uncommon for former Celtic players to be linked with Parkhead returns. In several cases, fans would be more than open to the prospect. One would think that the likes of Kieran Tierney, Jota, Odsonne Edouard and a few others would be welcomed back with open arms. That might not be the case for some though.
Particularly those who did not impress during their spells at Celtic Park. Yet, that has not stopped the Hoops from being linked with a move for Jonjoe Kenny.
As reported by SportBild (via Sport Witness), Celtic are ‘keen’ on signing Kenny, while Bournemouth have included the fullback on their wish list. It may be possible that the Hoops are ahead of the Cherries in the chase for the defender. With just over six months left on his deal, Hertha Berlin are in favour of his departure because they ‘urgently need’ funds and he has a transfer value of €2.5 million.
Kenny spent time on loan at Celtic in the second half of the 20/21 season as Jeremie Frimpong left to join Bayer Leverkusen. He was at Everton back then but has since left the Toffees to join Hertha Berlin.
Former Celtic player could make €2.5m Parkhead return
It would be safe to say that Kenny did not make much of an impression while at Celtic. His output has improved quite a bit since leaving Everton for Hertha Berlin though.
As a result, if Celtic do end up signing Kenny, they might be getting a very different player to the one who struggled to impress while on loan at Parkhead. That being said, do the club even need another right-back?
Alistair Johnston is the undisputed starter in that area of the pitch. Also, Anthony Ralston is more than a capable cover option and is a full Scottish international.
