After the terrible 2020/21 season and the exit of Neil Lennon, Celtic have had a couple of great managers. Ange Postecoglou steadied the ship much faster than anybody could have expected considering the circumstances he had arrived in. He won five trophies in two seasons before leaving for Tottenham Hotspur.
The Aussie manager was replaced by a returning Brendan Rodgers. After a shaky start, the Northern Irishman has found his feet once again and won his tenth trophy with the club, the third of his second term, when Celtic won the Scottish League Cup last weekend.
Celtic deserve a lot of credit for getting back-to-back appointments right. However, one cannot overlook the times when the club picked the wrong manager for the job.
Ronny Deila is someone who never really shined in the role although he won a few trophies over his two seasons in the Parkhead hot seat. His managerial career since departing Parkhead has not been particularly impressive. He has found moderate success at some clubs but struggled at others.
Former Celtic boss announced as new Atlanta United manager
Now, the Norwegian has found a new role. As reported by the club's official website, Deila has been announced as the head coach of Atlanta United.
Deila has a proven track record of success in the United States of America. He won the MLS Cup with New York City FC in 2021.
The success had seen him make his way back into the European game as a manager. After a good spell at Standard Liege, he got the Club Brugge but did not even spend a year there before being shown the exit door by the Belgian club. Now, Deila returns to the MLS and it remains to be seen how things turn out for him this time around.
