Martin O'Neill is set to take charge of Celtic in a European game for the very last time when they take on Feyenoord away at De Kuip. It is the competition where he achieved his biggest success as the manager of the Hoops, even if he might not have won it, reaching the final of the UEFA Cup in Seville all those years ago, only to lose to Jose Mourinho's FC Porto, who would go on to win the Champions League a year later.
O'Neill has a few selection decisions to make on the day, that is for sure. Celtic currently sit at 27th in the Europa League table. So, even if this is an away game, it is one that they need to win.
Could O'Neill spring a surprise or two when it comes to his team selection? The Daily Record put out a predicted XI earlier and it saw Paulo Bernardo getting the nod as a starter, something that has rarely happened in reality this season.
Bernardo has been a forgotten man for Celtic lately. Explaining the call to hand him a start, the report added:
"Adding the former Portugal U21 midfielder to the midfield could provide a robustness and avoid a basketball game in the De Kuip."
Forgotten Celtic player tipped to start against Feyenoord
After having him on loan from Benfica, Celtic ended up signing Bernardo on a permanent basis. But it is safe to say that he has not been provided with enough chances since then.
He seemed to fall out of Brendan Rodgers' plans by the time his run at Celtic Park was coming to an end. And O'Neill has not handed him too many opportunities either.
One would imagine that he is already considering the idea of a move away from Celtic at this point. So, handing him a start in a game of this magnitude would come as a bit of a surprise for sure. Let's see if the Hoops end up taking that risk against Feyenoord.
