It is safe to say that Celtic are in a very vulnerable position at this point in time. They have done well to claw back into the title race after falling eight points behind Hearts just before Brendan Rodgers gave his resignation. Since then, Derek McInnes' side have dropped points while Martin O'Neill has managed to get a tune out of this struggling team.
It does not look like Celtic are going to be sticking with O'Neill for much longer though. He was brought in as interim manager and this was never expected to be a long run for the club icon.
Wilfried Nancy has emerged as the outright favourite to become the next manager of Celtic. If he does indeed get the job then there could be a few problems he will need to deal with as soon as possible.
One of them has to be regarding the club's injury situation. The Hoops are missing a lot of players right now and barely have any depth in a few positions on the pitch. One of them is right-back.
Forgotten Celtic player deserves chance after another injury
Alistair Johnston was returning from a spell on the sidelines and in what looked like a desperate move, he was handed a start by Brendan Rodgers immediately. That proved to be an error and he was injured again in that very same game.
He has now had to undergo surgery and is out for a while. On the other hand, Colby Donovan suffered an ankle injury during the ongoing international break.
The situation is far from ideal. The solution might already be at the club though. We saw Jahmai Simpson Pusey start against Kilmarnock and Celtic did keep a clean sheet on the day. He must be given future chances in that position again.
