It had looked like Celtic were going to be cruising their way to victory and a place in the next round of the Europa League, after going 3-0 up inside the first 20 minutes against FC Utrecht. But things are never that easy when it comes to the Hoops, especially in Europe. Unsurprisingly, they allowed the Dutch side back into the game.

A striker right before the break, and then one at the hour mark, made things a lot tougher for Celtic. Fortunately, Auston Trusty was there to find the fourth and settle the nerves. The American, who was on the receiving end of so much criticism last season, has redeemed himself with his performances in recent times.

On the other hand, one player who is not even close to redeeming himself is Kasper Schmeichel. The Danish goalkeeper has struggled badly for months now, yet continues to be picked as the starter between the posts.

Once again, he was one of those at fault for the goals Celtic conceded. And it would be safe to say that the fans were not amused to see the Danish international making a mess of things once again.

Schmeichel is well past his prime and the downturn in his performances, even from his first few months at Celtic, is scary. As one fan wrote: "Schmeichel is so finished. How is he still getting a game?"

Another said: "Schmeichel is a liability."

Of course, Celtic do not have much in the name of depth when it comes to the goalkeeping spot. For a while, fans had called for Viljami Sinisalo to be given a chance as the starter. But when those came, he failed to step up to the plate and ended up struggling himself, which means that it is likely that Schmeichel will continue to be the number one for the rest of the season.
