To be very honest, most Celtic fans would have been content with a draw away at De Kuip. After how poor the club have been in Europe in recent years, and this season it particular, that would have been viewed as a decent result. The last time they faced Feyenoord away, it had ended in a 2-0 loss. But Martin O'Neill's side looked like a different team.

It might very well have been their best performance for the season. A 3-1 win away from home against Feyenoord with the goals coming from Yang Hyun-jun, Reo Hatate and Benjamin Nygren.

There is one person who deserves special credit though. And it is none other than O'Neill, who took the call at a time of need and has completely turned things around for Celtic this season.

They were headed nowhere during those last few months with Brendan Rodgers as manager. This is clearly not the same team. Even on days they are not good, they are getting results. And on nights like these, they are brilliant. And the fans now want the club to make a U-turn.

It is very clear that O'Neill is not the long-term solution for Celtic. But there are those who believe that his departure, and the appointment of Wilfried Nancy, should be delayed until after the Scottish League Cup final against St Mirren.

As one Celtic fan wrote: "Let Martin stay till the cup final with St Mirren & go up and lift the cup."

We have put forward this view in the past ourselves. Bringing in a new manager before a cup final comes with the risk of derailing the momentum that has been built up under the management of O'Neill. Why not just continue with him for a few more weeks?
