It’s an interesting scenario all around for Celtic in terms of goalscorers. They did net three times in a disappointing draw away at Dundee but missed several great chances to settle the game in the first-half itself. While other players are contributing to the goal tally, there does seem an issue in the centre-forward spot.
Adam Idah had another difficult game. He looks to be struggling for confidence, not to mention goals. Perhaps he needs consistent game time to rediscover the form he showcased on loan last season.
Kyogo Furuhashi has looked brighter playing out wide in the last couple of games. He scored two great goals at the weekend against Ross County. But he hasn’t been able to match the heights he reached under the management of Ange Postecoglou.
So the focus turns to alternatives, either by way of progress through the club or via the January transfer window. Johnny Kenny, back from his loan spell at Shamrock Rovers, looked keen at the weekend. He was unlucky not to get some game time at Dundee. He may well offer more goals than a struggling Idah.
Fabrizio Romano confirms West Ham and Brighton want Celtic player
There is also Daniel Cummings from the B team. He has been in superb form this season and scored 24 goals in as many matches, but admittedly at a lower level. But it has always been said that some players can score at any level, could that be the case for the academy standout?
Here’s the next part of this forward scenario at Celtic. We may not get the chance to find out whether Cummings could get even close to those goal numbers in the first team. He looks likely to follow the path of youngsters like Rocco Vata and Ben Doak by heading out the door rather than signing a new deal.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion are both keen on signing Cummings, with Celtic pushing for him to stay and sign a new deal. He is out of contract in the summer of 2025.
A move away seems most likely for Cummings, despite the club needing to get more goalscorers into the first team. If he does leave, it would be understandable considering Celtic's recent record when it comes to promoting academy standouts.
