It is no secret that Celtic are looking to sign a striker or two in the ongoing winter transfer window. They have been linked with plenty of names over the last few days in this regard but it remains to be seen how successful they will be when it comes to bringing them to Parkhead. Amid all this, news has emerged of a bid being made for an Irish forward. At the same time, there is reason to feel deflated as well.
Celtic have always kept their eyes out for the best talents emerging in Irish football. And one of them is Michael Noonan.
The 17-year-old has already represented Ireland at the U21 level. He is also a regular for Shamrock Rovers. So, it is not hard to see why he might have caught the eye of Celtic. The problem is, others have taken notice as well.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Hoffenheim are in advanced talks to sign Noonan from Shamrock Rovers. Celtic are also in the race and presented a bid in the last 24 hours. The German club want to seal the agreement as soon as possible.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Celtic have made bid for Irish striker
So, it looks like Celtic have made their move for Noonan, but they might have been a bit too late. And to be honest, this has been the story of the Hoops for a few years now. They just can't seem to get deals done.
Serious questions need to be raised about the recruitment department. In the past, there have been complaints as well. But at the very least, players were signed.
Just look back at the Ange Postecoglou era for example. The efficiency shown was brilliant. But for some reason, instead of maintaining that, we have seen the club take several steps in the wrong direction.
