Many might not know that it is at Celtic that David Moyes got his break in senior football. He spent a few years at the club and was part of one league-winning side. His managerial career has proven to be much more noteworthy than whatever he achieved as a player though. Currently, he is back at Everton and appears to have steadied things for the Merseyside club after they had gone through a few turbulent years.
Everton currently sit at sixth in the Premier League table. That is pretty good for a team that has avoided relegation more than once in recent years.
It is quite remarkable that for all Moyes did over the course of his managerial career, he never ended up managing at Celtic. One of the Hoops' current starters has been tipped to head to Everton though.
The player in question is none other than Alistair Johnston, who is currently out recovering from an injury. As reported by the Daily Record, former Everton star Kevin Kilbane said after having spoken to the defender on the Park the Bus Podcast:
"I know we’ve had a chat with Alistair Johnston, and when we asked the question around where he sees his future, it’s definitely a season like this where that could be done, if something comes around in January.
“You could see it happening. Whether it’s (Nottingham) Forest, I could see him maybe somewhere like Everton or somewhere like that.
"We know the kind of coach that David Moyes is and we know that Alistair would bring that type of stability that Moyes would love in a full-back.
“So there’s a number of options you can see, but I personally hope he stays at Celtic, and plays for the biggest club in the world."
Everton tipped to sign Celtic player David Moyes would love
Over the years, we have seen Johnston being linked with a move away from Celtic a few times. But for now, it does seem like he is pretty content with life at Parkhead.
At the same time, he has not ruled out the possibility of ever leaving Celtic either. So, it might be about what kind of opportunities present themselves rather than actively wanting to leave.
Let's see what the future holds for the Celtic defender. He is a nailed-on starter right now and the fans will be hoping that he stays at the club for years to come and establishes a Mikail Lustig-like legacy for himself at Parkhead.
