Over the years, Celtic have been linked with a move for Evan Ferguson on numerous occasions. And going into this January transfer window, those rumours have cropped up once again. The club clearly are in need of a striker, having scored just once over Wilfried Nancy's first two games as their manager.
Ferguson took the opportunity to remind Celtic what he is capable of. He scored a brace when AS Roma visited Parkhead this week, in the process tripling his goal tally for the Italian side.
There is no guarantee that he will remain with AS Roma beyond this upcoming winter transfer window though. Before the brace against Celtic, he had scored just once for them in 14 appearances. Naturally, questions are being raised about his future in the Italian capital, with him only on loan there from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Ferguson seemed to be pretty happy to have played at Celtic Park as well. It is believed that he grew up supporting the club. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, he said on TNT Sports:
"No, it was it was nice. I was I was expecting it to be a good crowd obviously when you hear it before and the links with the Irish and stuff, you know what I mean?
“So, it was it was nice to play here today."
Evan Ferguson makes Celtic claim amid transfer rumours
It remains to be seen if this is the end of Ferguson's association with Celtic. Or if the club will end up making a move for him in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Brighton & Hove Albion striker has not developed as well as was expected of him. He spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United but did not score a single goal. And while he has now scored thrice for AS Roma, his spell has not been brilliant by any stretch of the imagination.
So, it is very possible that he could head back in the winter. And if he does so, it might open up a chance for Celtic to swoop in.
