There has not been much for Celtic fans to enjoy over the past few weeks. The game between the Rangers and Hearts would have lifted their moods though. The 'undefeated' start to the Russell Martin era in the Scottish Premiership finally came to an end. After guiding his team to four straight draws, he finally tasted defeat, at the hands of Hearts, and at Ibrox as well.

It is safe to say that a large section of the Rangers support has already given up on Martin and want him to be shown the exit door. We are just in mid-September, so that might be some sort of record.

The result does leave the Rangers sitting at tenth in the Scottish Premiership table. On the other hand, Celtic, who have had their own share of problems in recent times, now have the chance to go nine points clear of their Glasgow rivals when they take on Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

Chris Sutton has had his fair share of fun with tongue-in-cheek comments about the Rangers over the years. But he might very well have been very serious this time around. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the former Celtic striker said on BBC 606:

"That’s embarrassing for Rangers to be sitting tenth in the league."

It remains to be seen what the Rangers decide to do about this situation. Despite how things are going at the moment, it is hard to imagine that they will part ways with the manager already.

Reports that emerged earlier in the week had suggested that Martin retains the backing of the board. Will one defeat change that? Time shall tell.

As for Celtic, they have their own problems to deal with at the moment. They need to get all three points against Kilmarnock or the mood around Parkhead will only worsen.
