It is hard to predict where Celtic's search for a permanent manager will go next. It looks like Ange Postecoglou wants to spend time away from management for a bit after two high-profile Premier League sackings within the space of a few months. And on top of that, he might not be keen on a return to the Scottish Premiership in the first place if certain suggestions are accurate.
On the other hand, Celtic might have a tough time bringing in managers like Kieran McKenna and Nicky Hayen. Both have long-term contracts with their current clubs and it will take a compensation fee to make any move a possibility.
Now, it looks like another manager might be out of the race to be the next Celtic manager. In this instance, it is not a name that has been doing the rounds in the media lately. But it appears that the opportunity was presented to him, but to no avail.
As reported by De Telegraaf, Mark van Bommel was asked to succeed Brendan Rodgers. But he turned the Scots down.
Dutch legend rejects chance to become Celtic manager
Van Bommel had a legendary playing career. He was a stalwart for the Netherlands national team and reached the 2010 World Cup final. At the club level, he turned out for teams like Barcelona, AC Milan and Bayern Munich.
As a manager, he has not had as much success yet. His spell at Royal Antwerp was pretty good though. He won three trophies during his time with the club.
Interestingly, that has been his last role in management so far. He left in 2024 and has been without a club since then. It remains to be seen if or when he does make a return to the dugout. But he clearly was not keen on Celtic being that club.
