Who will be the next permanent manager of Celtic? We are all waiting to find the answer to that question. It won't be simple though. It was never going to be in the middle of the season. The club have been linked with a variety of names over the past couple of weeks, since Brendan Rodgers decided to quit his post.

There have been some suggestions that Martin O'Neill should be given the job until the end of the season. It is believed that the manager is willing to extend his stay at Parkhead but believes that it would be for the best if the club ended up bringing in the next permanent boss as soon as possible.

That should be the aim of the club as well. The January transfer window is vital and should be used to rebuild the squad in the vision of the next manager.

A new name seems to have cropped up in the race for the job. There had been some whispers in the English media before this. Now, as reported by the Daily Record, Cardiff City boss Brian Barry-Murphy has been discussed internally by Celtic.

Barry-Murphy has done a decent enough job at Cardiff City. But making the jump to Celtic would be a big ask. Perhaps too big.

This is not the type of name that will impress the fans, that is for sure. The need to bring in a proven winner, not a project manager to go with their project players.

To be very honest, very few are capable of dealing with the pressure that comes with managing in Glasgow. Just ask the Rangers, who sack their managers every season. Celtic cannot end up getting caught up in the same cycle.
