Quite a few former Celtic players have been linked with Parkhead returns this winter. Kieran Tierney is the most high-profile name among them and seems to be closing in on the move, whether it be this month or in the summer when his Arsenal contract is set to run out. Jota also appears to be on his way out of Rennes.

They are not the only two former Celtic players who have been linked with a return to Glasgow though. Another name that falls under that category is that of Jonjoe Kenny.

Kenny spent time on loan at Celtic from Everton. And while he did not impress back then, the right-back has been putting up some solid numbers since joining Hertha Berlin.

Celtic already have a couple of options at right-back though and as a result, the links with Kenny were interesting to say the least. Now, while he looks set to leave Hertha Berlin, Parkhead won't be his destination. Instead, he appears to be headed back to England.

As reported by Fraser Fletcher, Kenny is joining Sheffield United. Personal terms have been agreed. The fee will be around £800,000.

Considering Kenny's improved output in Germany, perhaps he could have been a decent option for Celtic at right-back. But it is hard to imagine that he would have moved ahead of Alistair Johnston in the pecking order and established himself as a starter. At best, the Hoops would have been bringing in a backup option and for that kind of a transfer fee, it makes sense.

That being said, Anthony Ralston has been in the team for a long time and came through the Celtic academy ranks. He is a reliable option who seems content with his role and it is important to have players like that around.
