Celtic's recent record when it comes to integrating their youngsters into the senior team has not been anything to write home about. Since Kieran Tierney, nobody has been able to make that jump and become a first-team starter. The likes of Anthony Ralston and Stephen Welsh have squad roles but cannot be considered key players.

Justin Osagie is someone Celtic fans had high hopes for. He joined the club a couple of years back after a spell at West Ham United.

Things clearly did not end up working out for Osagie at Celtic. And he quietly left the club recently. Now, he has found his new home.

As reported by Peterborough United's official website, the club have completed the signing of Osagie on a one-year deal following a successful trial period over recent weeks. Manager Darren Ferguson said about the move:

"Our recruitment team were aware of Justin and have been for a number of years. He was a kid at West Ham United, he moved up to Celtic and was released at the end of the season.

"Obviously Celtic is a different level to us. He has come in to train with us and he has done very well, extremely impressive."

It remains to be seen how things go for Osagie at Peterborough United. The club have a good reputation when it comes to developing youngsters. The most famous example of that is Ivan Toney.

Celtic had actually been very close to signing Toney from Peterborough United after his breakout season with the club. But ultimately, a move did not materialise, he ended up joining Brentford and the rest is history.

The English League One might be a good place for Osagie to continue his development in the game. It did not work out for him at Celtic but he is still just 19 and has time on his side to reach his potential.

As for Celtic, their inability to bring through academy youngsters into the first-team is becoming a worry. Things need to improve as soon as possible in this respect. Otherwise, this circle of highly-rated players leaving the club without making an impact will never end.
