Celtic had started the summer transfer window very well, getting plenty of deals over the line. Things have slowed down a bit in recent times in terms of signings but departures have continued to take place. Another thing that one cannot deny is the fact that the Hoops have not made any big-money additions.
Yes, Kieran Tierney is a superb player but he has arrived as a free agent and largely due to his love for the club. Other than that, there has been the bargain signing of Benjamin Nygren and the arrival of players like Hayato Inamura, Ross Doohan and Callum Osmand. A move for Shin Yamada is also believed to be on the verge of completion.
Of course, Celtic have been linked with plenty of big-money moves but they have not made any. Now, it looks like another rumoured target is no longer available.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Carlos Forbs is set to join Club Brugge from Ajax, The deal is done for €8.5m fee. He opted for the project over offers from England, Italy and Scotland.
'Deal done' - Fabrizio Romano confirms bad news for Celtic
Of course, there is only one club in Scotland that is involved in moves of this magnitude. Even after the change in ownership, we have not seen the Rangers show that kind of ambition yet.
That being said, Forbs is not heading to Celtic either. If the club did indeed try to sign him, it was clearly a failed effort. They will have to move their sights elsewhere.
Let's see what the future holds for Celtic. They do need to strengthen in a few positions this summer. But at this point in time, the club do not seem close to making any high-profile additions to the squad. Hopefully, that will change very soon.
