Celtic have a stacked squad at this point in time. That does not mean that there are no areas for them to improve in. Left-back can be considered one of them. Greg Taylor has been the first-choice there for the past several seasons but many believe that the Hoops can find an improvement there. Alex Valle is currently the Scot's cover, on loan from FC Barcelona.
Interestingly, Celtic's most in-form left-back is not even playing for Brendan Rodgers' side right now. Instead, he is out on loan at Internacional.
Alexandro Bernabei was recently named the best left-back in the Brazilian top flight. He is set to return to Celtic soon but his long-term future in Glasgow remains uncertain despite his excellent loan spell at Internacional.
On the other hand, Internacional seem very open to the idea of signing Bernabei once again, whether it be on another loan spell or on a permanent basis for the right fee. As reported by The National, the Brazilian club's president Alessandro Barcellos said on Radio Gaucha:
"It depends on the Scottish club's interest.
“It may be a new lending [loan] or a price that we can pay.
“It is a worthy investment to pay for a loan. In the first loan, the price was low."
Club president confirms interest in signing Celtic player
A lot of Celtic fans would be open to the idea of giving Bernabei another chance at Parkhead. He clearly has improved as a player while away on loan in Brazil.
Of course, he never really impressed while at Celtic and had off-field issues as well. As a result, it is possible that the club view this as the right opportunity to move him on for a high fee rather than handing him another opportunity, risk failure and having a negative impact on his transfer value.
It will be interesting to see how things play out in the Bernabei saga. A few other Brazilian clubs are believed to be interested in him as well and surely teams in Europe will have taken notice of his form too.
