Christian Eriksen has been linked with a move to Celtic in recent weeks with his future with Manchester United in doubt. Erik ten Hag is no longer in charge at Old Trafford. The Dutchman manager was shown the exit door after a bad start to the season and has been replaced by Ruben Amorim.
It remains to be seen whether Eriksen can establish himself as a key player for the new Manchester United manager or not. Either way, the expectation is for him to leave the club at the end of the season, when his current deal runs out.
If that does turn out to be the case, Celtic could find themselves in the mix for a free transfer. There is one obstacle as well though.
As reported by Football Insider, Eriksen’s wages could be a “big obstacle". Celtic might be forced to wait until summer for the Manchester United midfielder. He is out of contract at Old Trafford after this season, and might be inclined to sit and wait in a bid to explore his options when more clubs could end up being available to him.
When Christian Eriksen to Celtic transfer could happen
When it comes to the financial side of things, Celtic are not expected to put the best offer forward for the veteran. But there are a lot of other things that they are capable of bringing to the table which might interest him in a move to Glasgow.
Celtic would offer him the chance to play in front of arguably the best fan base in world football. One would imagine that Kasper Schmeichel would have great things to say about that experience.
Also, Celtic would give him the chance to compete for trophies and most likely at the Champions League level. Could that entice someone like Eriksen in the twilight of his career?
