There is a lot of negativity around Celtic's summer transfer window and understandably so. It is pretty clear the squad has been weakened. The Hoops have seen key players like Nicolas Kuhn, Adam Idah, Greg Taylor and more leave. And to be honest, there are serious doubts about whether the replacements are up to that level.

In fact, in the case of Idah, a proper replacement has not even been brought in. Fans have been left scratching their heads as to why his exit was sanctioned without a replacement being brought in as first, as Brendan Rodgers had suggested would happen merely days earlier while speaking to the media.

It remains to be seen if the fan dissatisfaction leads to any changes or not. On the other hand, there are some things that the Hoops did seem to get right this summer.

One of them might have been the decision to sign Benjamin Nygren from FC Nordsjaelland for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £1.5 million. Chris Sutton has even backed him as the signing of the summer in Scotland.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, when asked on the Warm-Up podcast who the signing of the summer is, Sutton said:

"You know me, I don’t like to get carried away. I am not that shallow. Nygren. He’s been good, hasn’t he?

“Well, I mean, he’s sort of fitted in well and scored a few goals. So, I would, yeah, say Benjamin Nygren."

Well, Nygren has certainly put in a few good performances in a Celtic shirt already and seems to have moved ahead of Arne Engels in the pecking order, just a year after the Belgian was brought in for a club-record fee. That being said, the Swedish international has had games where he has not done nearly enough.

So, it might be a bit too early to make any judgments on how good Nygren really is. That being said, there do not seem to be many other standout signings that have been made in Scottish football this summer, so there are not a lot of candidates in this race.
