Chris Sutton has echoed the thoughts of many a Celtic fan amid an ongoing wait over the official appointment of Martin O'Neill.
The Bhoys are expected to announce O'Neill's stay as permanent boss any day now, but the wait goes on, and there are consequences to such a delay.
Sutton unhappy with the delay
Many Celtic fans now have a "just get on with it" response to the O'Neill appointment, with an announcement yet to be made despite widespread reports the veteran boss has agreed to stay on.
The delay, according to former Bhoys striker Sutton, is helping no one.
“The biggest thing which I have been confused with is why we are over two weeks on from the end of the season, and Celtic winning the double, and the announcement still officially hasn’t been made," he told The Warm-Up.
“It’s about communication. And the fact that there is this silence and the decision-making is taking so long. That’s what I can’t understand. What’s going to be important is not just about Martin being the manager again. It’s about what’s going to happen in terms of recruitment.
“The last two windows Celtic have had have been an absolute disaster. He’s in a very strong position. He’s saying, 'give me what I want'.”
Celtic fans will be saying the same thing
The summer has barely begun and it has already been a difficult one for the Hoops board. Between the whole Robbie Keane controversy and the delay in announcing the O'Neill appointment, fans won't be overly pleased with how things are being run.
The delay in the announcement is no trivial matter, given there has already been a delay in the club's transfer business. The club may have had to speak to other candidates due to hesitancy from O'Neill, but whether it had to take this long is another question.
And if the media know O'Neill is going to be appointed, get it announced, let's crack on with summer recruitment and sort the finer details out as we go.
The Bhoys got off to a sluggish start last season, and the last thing they want is for a repeat this time around. This summer's recruitment has to be more efficient, and so far, there are few indications that it will be, given the slow nature of the managerial appointment and the ticking clock as other clubs already begin to agree deals.
