Sometimes you do not get what you deserve in football. This was one of those nights for Celtic. They did everything possible against Bayern Munich. If they had taken their chances, this might have actually turned out to be a one-sided scoreline. But they did not just have the final touch in the final third and paid the price for it.
Nicolas Kuhn had put the Hoops ahead and that's how it stayed past 90 minutes. But then, Alphonso Davies managed to bundle the home in the dying seconds of the game to make it 1-1 and Bayern Munich won 3-2 on aggregate.
There are a lot of what ifs coming out of the tie. What if Celtic had taken their glorious chances in the first half? What if they had gotten a penalty in the first leg when Arne Engels appeared to be fouled by Dayot Upamecano?
This is not the time to dwell on those though. It is a time to be proud of this team, who exceeded all expectations in Munich and almost got a win against one of the best teams in Europe.
Chris Sutton's immediate reaction to Celtic exit vs Bayern Munich
Sutton seemed pretty proud of the performance that is former team put in away at the Allianz Arena against Bayern Munich. He tweeted out after the game:
Absolutely outstanding performance from Celtic. Sometimes you don’t get what you deserve🍀

Yes, this was not the result that Celtic deserved. Not after their performances over the two legs. One could argue that they were actually the better team.
But life goes on. Celtic should take a lot of confidence from this tie though. They went toe-to-toe with Bayern Munich and barely lost. Now, it is time to make sure that this does not turn out to be a one-off for the club. It has to be a platform to build on.
