It has been a long time since Chris Sutton retired from the game but he has maintained his popularity amongst Celtic fans, thanks to his work in the media. Whenever something good happens to the Hoops or the Rangers inevitably stumble, the former striker's comments are one of the first things that the supporters look for.

This midweek was certainly a positive for Celtic even though they might not have won. A goalless draw away in Bergamo against Atalanta is nothing to scoff at. Arsenal managed the same result last month.

The performance from Celtic came as a surprise to many. Especially after they had conceded seven goals against Borussia Dortmund in their previous Champions League outing.

This was a much improved defensive performance from Celtic, and the change in system helped for sure. One player in particular seems to have caught the eye of Sutton. He wrote in his column in the Daily Record:

"The Irishman and Auston Trusty were superb at centre-back and I have to say that the American’s performance was a pleasant surprise."

Auston Trusty was signed on deadline day of the recent summer transfer window from Sheffield Wednesday for a fee believed to be in the region of £6 million. To be honest, he has not been exactly impressive so far.

Trusty's early performances have been shaky at best. But he did do a lot better against Atalanta and hopefully, that will give him the confidence to go on and establish himself as a key player for the Hoops.

One also has to point out that he was most likely brought in to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers in the heart of the Celtic defence, not take his place in the team. But unfortunately, his American international teammate has been out dealing with an injury for a while, which has led to Trusty taking his place in the starting XI alongside Liam Scales.
