Since the departure of Steven Gerrard, the Rangers have had five different managers. Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Mick Beale and Philippe Clement were sacked while Barry Ferguson was not retained permanently following the end of his interim stint. Now, Russell Martin finds himself in the Ibrox hotseat, trying to catch up with Celtic.
This summer, the Rangers have spent around €20 million on new signings, alongside bringing in multiple players on loan from Premier League clubs. Yet, after the first three Scottish Premiership matchdays, they find themselves six points behind Celtic and have not won a single game.
This is not the start that their fans would have been envisioning when Martin was appointed. We are still in August and they already want him to be shown the exit door.
Of course, that won't be simple. As reported by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain on his blog, a very well-placed source has told him that the Stateside owners were very clear to their CEO that if Martin was to be relieved of his duties, then any severance package would come out of existing budgets.
Celtic will love what new owners have told Rangers about sacking Russell Martin
A few months into the new ownership era and things are already looking shaky at Ibrox. Yes, they have shown ambition in terms of transfer spending this summer. But question marks have been raised about the recruitment.
Despite spending such a significant amount, many believe that the Rangers have not been able to strengthen in any position across the pitch. Of course, that is the last thing you want to hear.
The results on the pitch are proof of that theory. As for Celtic, they have looked shaky as well and their Champions League hopes are up in the air. But at least they have won all three of their league games so far.
