Who will be the next Celtic manager? Nobody can confidently say that they know the answer to that question. Of course, one could make an educated guess. But as things stand, there is no clear direction that the club are moving in. There is a belief that this weekend's match could be Martin O'Neill's last in charge of the Hoops. If so, it would be an occasion worth remembering and probably should have been confirmed beforehand so that he can be given a sendoff.

That being said, it is still unclear whether that will indeed be the case. There are many who believe that it is Kjetil Knutsen that the Hoops want to bring in.

If that is the case, then O'Neill might have to remain in charge for a little while longer. There is no chance that Knutsen would be open to leaving Bodo/Glimt with just three games left in the league season and a fifth title with the club very much possible. In fact, there have even been claims that he wants to complete the Champions League campaign with the Norwegian side.

That runs on until the end of January. On the other hand, Kieran McKenna is another who has been linked with the club. He is believed to have a £5m release clause in his contract.

Celtic well-placed to agree £5m managerial appointment

The fans have been told that spending that kind of money on a managerial appointment will come down to whether the board want to or not, not the finances. As reported by Football Insider, football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley said:

"They are a club that can spend but, again, they’re not going to spend hundreds of millions. That that’s not the model and its not that they can go to that level.

“But they can spend. And if they do want this manager and they see that as key to moving forward they can afford £5m. And then you’re into, okay, what’s the longer term project? "

That will not come as a surprise to anybody that has been paying attention to the club. Celtic do have money in the bank.

Do they want to shell that kind of a figure out on a manager? That is the question that needs to be answered.
