Defensive midfield is one position Celtic are trying to strengthen in this summer transfer window. We have seen the Hoops being linked with a number of holding midfielders over the past few months, as that is a profile they are missing right now and are keen to fill as soon as possible. Now, let's see how successful they are in doing that.

Recently, Celtic have been linked with one highly-rated Italian striker in the form of Giuseppe Ambrosino, currently of Napoli. Now, it looks like they have a defensive midfielder from Italy on their radar as well.

As reported by TBR Football, Celtic have been keeping an eye on Salvatore Esposito. Brighton, Burnley, Brentford, Fulham, Everton and Sunderland are also interested in the Italian midfielder.

He is the older brother of Inter Milan's Sebastiano Esposito and Francesco Esposito. In fact, he was part of their youth system at one point in time as well. Currently, he finds himself playing Serie B football with Spezia.

Considering the level and amount of interest in Esposito, it is safe to say that he has impressed with Spezia. He has played for the Italy national team on one occasion as well.

It remains to be seen if Celtic do end up making a serious push to sign him in this summer transfer window. It is safe to say that it won't be simple, consider the level of interest that the midfielder seems to be drawing at the moment, if the rumours are accurate.

Of course, it is worth mentioning that the Rangers have been linked with him as well. On the other hand, let's also point out that the Hoops appear to have plenty of other defensive midfielders on their radar at this point in time as well.
