Celtic want to sign former Nottingham Forest striker for free

It looks like Celtic are eyeing a former Nottingham Forest striker, as they scramble for options after failing to sign a centre-forward on deadline day.

Celtic find themselves scrambling for free agents right now. That is because they failed to sign a striker on deadline day despite allowing Adam Idah to leave for Swansea City. That was an unbelievable decision. One that still does not make any sense. And it remains to be seen if the club are able to find any sort of a short-term fix for their current situation.

One player they have been linked with is Kelechi Iheanacho. Talks are said to have been going on with him since last night but nothing concrete has materialised so far. Another is Patrick Bamford, who they are believed to have contacted. And now, a third name has emerged.

Of course, it is only free agents that the Hoops can sign right now. As reported by The Herald, Celtic are also interested in Nigerian international Emmanuel Dennis.

Dennis left Nottingham Forest by mutual consent after three years at the City Ground. He spent a large portion of that time out on loans though and never established himself at the Premier League.

At this point, it feels like Celtic are cycling a list of last resort signings. It is hard to be excited about the prospect of any of them joining the Hoops. But at the same time, we know that the club need a striker as soon as possible.

Dennis does not have a great goalscoring record though. His best season was back in 2017-18, when he managed to score 12 goals for Club Brugge. Since then, he has gone into double digits just once, scoring 10 times for Watford in the 21-22 campaign. In eight international appearances for Nigeria, he has scored just once.

It is safe to say that Dennis is nowhere near a proven goalscorer. It remains to be seen if Celtic do end up signing him.
