Celtic could be looking to strengthen in quite a few positions right now. It is important to keep evolving in the fast-changing world of football and life at Parkhead is always a revolving door. One area in need of a bit of freshening up in Brendan Rodgers' squad is going forward. The club could do with another option or two.
It is believed that Celtic want to sign a winger this January. On the other hand, they might need a third option up front as well.
Interestingly, if rumours are accurate, then they seem to have a player in their sights who is capable of playing on the wing and up top. As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are eyeing a potential swoop for Aston Villa forward Louie Barry this month. It is believed the Scottish club are keen to sign him on a permanent basis.
Barry spent the first half of the season on loan at Stockport County. And it was an excellent spell for him as he scored 15 goals in 23 League One appearances before returning to Aston Villa recently.
Celtic want to sign Aston Villa forward permanently
Barry had a proven scoring record while coming through the youth football ranks as well, whether it be for Aston Villa or England. But at 21 years of age, he needs to be getting regular game time now and for that, he might need a change of scenery.
It remains to be seen if Celtic do end up making a move for Barry. He does fit the profile of signing that the club have made in recent years.
Of course, it would be a mistake to overlook Johnny Kenny's credentials for the third striker role. He impressed while on loan with Shamrock Rovers and did well in a recent appearance off the bench for Celtic.
