Celtic vs Dundee United match preview

Can Celtic, at least, maintain their four point advantage at the top of the Scottish Premiership? After this, the Hoops will have played everyone else in the division once, winning nine out of ten matches to date, their sole defeat a pretty big one, miserably beaten by Rangers in last month's derby.

On Sunday, Martin O'Neill's team came from a goal down to beat Hibs 2-1 at Easter Road, with Camilo Durán curling home a stunning winner on the cusp of half time.

So, with second-placed Rangers taking on third-placed Hearts at Tynecastle simultaneously, a victory for the champions, and a favourable result in Gorgie, would see them pull further clear of the chasing pack.

Dundee United though are the side who complete the top four, so will be no pushovers. On Saturday, Jim Goodwin's team extended their unbeaten streak to five matches, beating Aberdeen 3-2 at Tannadice, thanks to goals from Zidane Iqbal, Dylan Tait and then Zac Sapsford.

The Tangerines lost three of their first five to start the campaign, but have since defeated St Mirren, Hibernian and now Aberdeen, as they chase European qualification. So, can Dundee United cause a massive upset and win at Celtic Park for the first time in 34 years?

Celtic team news

Appearing for the first time since 9 August, Alistair Johnston's cameo against Hibs lasted just over 20 minutes, introduced to replace Colby Donovan, only to hobble off soon after, with fit again Cameron Carter-Vickers taking his place. Martin O'Neill revealed that the Canadian will now be back on the sidelines for a few weeks.

Elsewhere, following three substitute appearances, could Jota start for the first time since rupturing his ACL against Dundee United in April 2025? Now 16 appearances for club and country without a goal, Kasper Høgh is likely to drop to the bench, with Camilo Durán moved to centre-forward.

Dundee United team news

Rangers loanee Lyall Cameron and Iraq international Zidane Iqbal will form part of Dundee United's midfield, while Zach Sapsford will lead the line, having bagged his fifth of the season on Saturday. Will Ferry and Emmanuel Agyei were the scorers when the Arabs beat the Hoops at Tannadice in March.
