It is very clear that Celtic need to make quite a few signings in this January transfer window. Often, it proves to be difficult for clubs to get so many deals done in the middle of the campaign. The defending Scottish champions did not splash out in the summer though and should have a decent budget. That being said, the Hoops recently sacked Wilfried Nancy, and one has to wonder what kind of effect that could have on their business.
So far, there has been only one signing from Celtic in this winter window. They have brought in Julian Araujo on loan from Bournemouth for the remainder of the season.
That could prove to be a decent signing, even though Nancy is no longer manager. Martin O'Neill could do with another right-back as well, with Alistair Johnston out injured for the long-term. Anthony Ralston has not exactly impressed. Colby Donovan should be getting continued chances though.
Interestingly, Celtic are now being linked with another Canadian international. In fact, the move might not be far away.
Celtic very close to signing Canadian international
As reported by Izak Ante Sucic, It looks like Niko Sigur from is now 'one step away' from joining Celtic. The Canadian international was also on Wolves' radar but the Hoops won in the race for his signature. The deal is on hold for a few days since Nancy got sacked.
Let's see how things play out from here. It would come as a surprise though if the deal collapses just because of Nancy's sacking.
Celtic do need players in both the positions that Sigur can play in. He is both a right-back and a defensive midfielder, and has played about the equal number of games in both those areas for his current side, which a great sign.
