It looks like there has been a Celtic transfer U-turn after the move had seemed very close.

It remains to be seen how Celtic will strengthen their squad in this winter transfer window. So far, the club have been successful in making only one addition to their ranks, and even that is not on a permanent basis. Julian Araujo has been brought in on a six-month loan from Bournemouth after making just one appearance in the first half of the season.

A move for Jocelin Ta Bi is also believed to be very close, with both sides of the deal said to have been agreed by several outlets in the media. But so far, it has not been officially announced.

Another move that had appeared to be close to completion at one point was one for Niko Sigur. But now, there seems to have been a twist in the tale.

As reported by Izak Ante Sucic, Fran Karacic has left Hajduk on a loan deal for the rest of the season plus an option to buy. This also means Sigur to Celtic is now unlikely to happen.

Sigur is a full Canadian international, who can play both as a right-back and as a defensive midfielder. So, it is not hard to understand why the player might have caught the eye of Celtic.

Both of those are positions where the Hoops could do with some reinforcements in this winter transfer window. Alistair Johnston has picked up a long-term injury, leaving them short of quality options at right-back, although one would imagine that the arrival of Araujo has solved that issue to a certain extent, at least in the short term for now.

On the other hand, they have not had a quality defensive midfielder for years now. It remains to be seen if they will add one in this window.
