Yet another Premier League club is showing interest in Celtic star Arne Engels this summer. The midfielder is likely to be at the centre of the biggest Hoops transfer saga this summer as he prepares for what will likely be a big-money move.
The Hoops are off to a slow start in the summer transfer window, yet to complete any new signings. The delay in Martin O'Neill taking the job full-time did not help, but Bhoys fans have had to be ultra patient despite talk aplenty of significant investment this summer.
The investment may well come, but so far, it looks more likely we will see more impactful exits at Parkhead.
Engels set for departure
After an impressive campaign, Engels is set to leave for big money, and likely to the Premier League. Celtic rejected a more than £20million approach back in January, but it's likely the Belgian will want to seize the chance to make the move to the Premier League this summer.
We have already seen plenty of clubs linked with a move for Engels this summer, and now Crystal Palace are the latest to be added to the list. Pierre Sage has been appointed as Oliver Glasner's replacement at Selhurst Park, although signigns are usually made by the director of football at Palace.
The South London club have an excellent recruitment record, and Engels appears to be the latest identified as a target. Journalsit Sacha Tavolieri reported that Forest will come back to the table after their failed January approach, viewing Engels as an idela replacement for Elliot Anderson, who is very likely to leave this summer.
Meanwhile, Palace are said to be hoping to convince Engels that they are the better option. The Belgian is not at the World Cup, so this is a transfer saga that could be resolved in the coming weeks.
As far as Celtic are concerned, they are not going to be too bothered which Premier League team Engels picks, only focusing on what kind of fee they bring in this summer.
Given a number of Premier League teams - and indeed European teams - could be interested this summer, Celtic may well be able to hold out for a fee of at least £25million. That would be a big boost to their summer spending, although it does, of course, come at the cost of losing one of their best players across all positions.
