It is unclear whether Celtic are still trying to sign another striker this summer or not. One would hope that they are, because the Hoops are light on options in that area of the pitch. Jota's injury and Nicolas Kuhn's departure mean that it is very likely that Daizen Maeda will be back on the flank for the foreseeable future. That leaves Adam Idah as the first-choice up top.
The issue is, it just does not feel like Idah is ready to be leading the line for Celtic. He did score 20 goals as a backup striker last season. That included scoring twice away againat Aston Villa in the Champions League.
That being said, one cannot overlook that several times he struggled to make an impression in games in which he should have been scoring and helping Celtic to wins. Oftentimes in the league, it is about the Hoops finding that first goal and it then opens the floodgates.
In such games, if your main striker is struggling, games can become too tight. So, Celtic do need another option there. And one of the players they have been linked with did score 21 times last season, albeit at League One level.
Celtic told they can sign striker with 21 goals last season for £5m
The player we are talking about is Richard Kone. As reported by BBC recently, Wycombe are believed to be holding out for a transfer fee of £5m for the striker.
Of course, this will remind many Celtic fans about the Ivan Toney transfer saga. Back when the Hoops wanted to sign him, he was playing at the League One level as well.
Unsurprisingly, there were many who raised their eyebrows at the idea of signing a player from the English third division, and he ended up joining Brentford instead. The rest is history. So, if Celtic are convinced about Kone's qualities, they should go out and sign him. Talent can be found anywhere. Just look at how things turned out for Matt O'Riley at Parkhead after he was brought in for MK Dons. Right now, he is being linked to Juventus.
