One thing that Celtic have rarely done in recent years is sign players from other Scottish teams. The only names that come to mind are David Turnbull, Benjamin Siegrist and Luke McCowan. Two of those three are no longer at Parkhead. The Hoops have been more focused on those playing their football abroad.

The signing of McCowan last summer has proven to be a smart one though. He has not been a regular starter for the Hoops by any means but he has certainly gotten his chances.

McCowan has made 33 appearances for Celtic this season. He has scored 6 goals and provided 7 assists. That is an excellent return from a player that was signed for a transfer fee believed to be around £1 million.

Now, Celtic have been urged to sign one of McCowan's former Dundee FC teammates. He looks set to be a free agent in the summer, with his current deal quickly running out.

The player we are talking about is Josh Mulligan. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Paul Slane said on Open Goal:

"Celtic and Rangers should be going for him."

Mulligan is a versatile player. He has played most of his football in midfield this season but is capable of playing in defence if the situation calls for it. He has 35 appearances to his name in the 24/25 campaign. While he has not scored, he has provided 5 assists over that period of time.

Similarly to McCowan, one would not expect someone like Mulligan to come in and be an immediate starter for Celtic. But he is certainly someone who can end up being a role player for the Hoops.

It remains to be seen what the future holds. But with Mulligan's contract looking set to run out, it is certainly a situation worth keeping a close eye on.
