Celtic told they can sign Evan Ferguson only on one condition

Will Celtic sign another striker this summer? That is a question that has been on the minds of the fans for a long time. Kyogo Furuhashi left the club in the winter to join Rennes and has had a nightmare spell there. So much so that he has been repeatedly linked with a return to Parkhead. That feels unlikely though as the club rarely spend transfer fees to bring in veterans. They only do so on loan or on free transfers.

Thus, it is more likely that Celtic will look towards a different option this summer. Could they try to bring in Evan Ferguson on loan? They have been linked with the Irish striker for a while now, going back to before his failed stint at West Ham United.

Ferguson, once considered the Premier League's next £100 million player, managed to score just one goal last season. He was goalless while on loan at West Ham United in the second half of the campaign. He clearly needs a change of scenery.

Celtic could be the perfect place for Ferguson to rediscover his confidence. But in order to sign him, they might need to give him playing time week in, week out. That is the view of Richard Dunne at least. He said (via CeltsAreHere):

"He just needs a run of games, a bit of confidence and a couple of goals.

“There’ll be a hundred options for Evan in the summer and it’s just sort of making sure he gets the one which is focused on him playing week in, week out."

Ferguson is an excellent striker. He showed that when he broke into the Premier League as a teenager. But he clearly is lacking confidence at the moment.

Now, there are some questions that need to be answered before Celtic make any move for him. Are they ready to give him consistent playing time?

Also, would it be wise to give playing time to a loan player while having someone like Adam Idah? While he has had his ups and downs at Celtic, one cannot deny that he managed to score 20 goals despite getting limited game time.
